Autumn confetti from Arrowtown and Wanaka
Every autumn, the hills around Arrowtown in New Zealand’s Otago region turn red, orange and gold. On a hike above the town, Madlen Duderstedt photographed branches full of autumn leaves, deliberately out of focus, so the colours dissolved into soft dots of light.
Konfetti im Wald – German for “confetti in the forest” – brings two mirrored photographs together. The view from Roys Peak near Wanaka was mirrored horizontally and vertically until it became a pattern of its own. Madlen then layered it in a digital double exposure with the Arrowtown branches, which are mirrored as well. The result is a joyful scatter of colour with a calm, ordered structure underneath.
