Between Realities 2025 – Body, Landscape and Memory
From 27 August to 12 October 2025, I showed a selection of my photographs at 180° Cafe in Berlin. The show was called Between Realities. The opening on 28 August 2025 fell exactly ten years after I left Germany for Australia, a journey that shaped the way I see, feel and make images.
Body of Nature: Between Skin and Landscape
The ongoing series Body of Nature is about how landscape and body merge. Most of the works are self-portraits. I layer them in double exposures, so skin slips into earth, sky or water. It's about closeness and letting go, tenderness and vastness. I shot these images in places that stayed with me: New Zealand, Australia and Portugal.
A Quiet Flirt: The Softer Side
The mini-series A Quiet Flirt is gentler. I worked with ambient light, soft transitions and textures of skin, metal and memory. It's about presence and absence, and the things you don't say out loud.
Photography You Can Touch
For me, a woven piece is a way to bring photography off the screen and into a room. At the show, I hung my Daintree woven art throw, made from one of my landscape photos. The fabric adds depth and warmth, and you want to touch it.
Ten Years, One Quiet Return
I left Germany with a one-way ticket to Australia on 28 August 2015. I had no idea what would happen or where I would end up.
Ten years to the day later, I was back in Berlin, opening my own exhibition. It felt surreal, like a full circle. Berlin, then Australia and New Zealand, and back to Berlin. Ten years later, to the day, an exhibition with exactly those places in it.
For me, the show was about belonging, change and the space between places, memories and feelings. Making art is how I work through them, and this show means a lot to me.
