"Between Realities" Exhibition – Where Skin Meets Landscape

This summer, Berlin-based photographer and artist Madlen Duderstedt presents a selection of her photographic works under the title Between Realities – featuring pieces from the ongoing Body of Nature series and images from the newly developed mini-series A Quiet Flirt.
The exhibition opens on August 28th, 2025 – exactly ten years after she left for Australia, a journey that deeply shaped her way of seeing, feeling, and creating.

In Between Layers, In Between Worlds

Body of Nature is an ongoing exploration of how landscape and human form intertwine. Through layered imagery, fragments of skin blend into earth, sky, or water. Many of the photographs are self-portraits – intimate compositions where the artist’s body becomes part of the terrain. It's about proximity and dissolution, about tenderness and vastness – and everything in between. The images were captured in places that have emotionally anchored her: New Zealand, Australia and Portugal.

The mini-series A Quiet Flirt moves even more subtly – using ambient light, soft transitions, and quiet textures of skin, metal, and memory. It flirts with presence and absence, with what remains unsaid.

Textile as an Extension of Photography

A single large-scale tapestry will also be on display – a woven artwork created from one of her landscape photographs. For her, textile is a way to bring photography into physical space. The structure of the fabric adds depth and warmth, inviting touch and connection.

A Quiet Anniversary

Ten years after stepping into the wide landscapes of the Southern Hemisphere, Between Realities feels like a quiet return – or perhaps a gentle reorientation. It’s more than an exhibition; it’s a reflection on belonging, change, and the fluid space between image and emotion, body and earth.
